Don't want to call your insurance company?

Let me know and I'll verify your benefits for you. It runs through my billing service rather than a phone call you have to make, and I'll come back to you in plain language with what it shows: whether I'm in-network with your plan, roughly where your deductible stands, and what a session is likely to cost you.

One thing to know: whatever I come back with is an estimate, not a guarantee. Benefits verification comes back to me through my billing service, and what it reports isn't always what your insurer will tell you directly — quoted benefits aren't a promise of payment, and coverage details change. Your insurance company is the only source that can give you a definitive answer, at the member services number on the back of your card. If you'd rather make that call yourself, there's a short list of what to ask further down this page.

Plans I'm in-network with

Kaiser UnitedHealthcare (UHC/UBH/UMR) Aetna Cigna Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Optum Oscar Oxford SelectHealth Providence Health Plan

Private pay

$140

Per individual session. American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa accepted. Cancellations within 24 hours of your scheduled session are billed the full session rate.

Good Faith Estimate

If you don't have insurance or don't plan to use it, federal law entitles you to a written estimate of expected costs before you begin. Just ask and I'll provide one.

Out-of-network

If your plan isn't listed, I can provide a superbill — an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer for possible partial reimbursement.

If you'd rather not use insurance

Some people prefer private pay, and there are reasonable arguments for it. Billing insurance requires submitting a mental health diagnosis, and the insurer can request records to justify continued treatment. Private pay avoids both. It costs more; whether that trade is worth it is a personal call, and I'm happy to talk it through rather than push you either way.

If you want to call your insurer yourself

Entirely optional — I'm glad to do this part for you. But if you'd rather go straight to the source, here's what to ask.

Six questions to ask when you call
  • Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?
  • What is my copay or coinsurance per session once the deductible is met?
  • Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
  • Are telehealth sessions covered at the same rate as in-person?
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?

Common questions

What if you're not in-network with my plan?

You'd have the option of private pay at $140 per session, or of checking whether your plan has out-of-network benefits that reimburse part of it. I can provide a superbill — an itemized receipt — that you submit to your insurer yourself.

How do I find out what I'll actually owe?

Two ways: call the member services number on the back of your card and ask the questions listed above, or send me your plan details and I'll check for you before your first session. Either way the figure depends on your specific plan and how much of your deductible you've met, and anything I come back with is an estimate — your insurer is the definitive source.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

No. The rate is $140 per session for private pay, and I'm in-network with ten plans, which covers most people who reach out.

What forms of payment do you take?

American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations within 24 hours of your scheduled session are billed the full session rate of $140. Insurance does not cover late-cancellation fees.

What's a Good Faith Estimate?

If you don't have insurance or don't plan to use it, federal law entitles you to a written estimate of what your care is expected to cost before you begin. Ask and I'll provide one.

Does insurance cover telehealth?

Yes, on every plan I'm in-network with. What you owe can differ from an in-person session, so it's worth confirming the details with your specific plan.
