I'm Joe Chouinard, LCSW, a Denver therapist specializing in complex trauma (C-PTSD) and addiction recovery. I also work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, and the patterns that keep them stuck. I ask a lot of questions, and I'll probably laugh at something you say sooner than you'd expect from a guy with a license number.
My office sits right on the edge of the DTC and Greenwood Village, easy to reach from Denver, Aurora, Centennial, and Lone Tree.
Together we'll explore what's actually holding you back, not just the symptoms on the surface, and build a path toward a fuller, more self-directed life.
I also work with life transitions, identity development, and self-esteem. All areas of focus →
Traditional talk therapy, built on a relationship where you can think out loud without bracing for judgment. The goal isn't just symptom relief; it's helping you build a kinder, steadier relationship with yourself.
We talk. We look at your patterns and your history together, and at what's actually going on underneath the surface, without shame getting in the way.
I draw on EMDR, Internal Family Systems, CBT, and ACT when they're useful for what you're working through, not as a fixed formula.
Some clients want structured modality work. Others just want space to think out loud. Both are welcome here.
Three steps, and you can stop after any of them.
You tell me what's bringing you in, as much or as little as you want. I answer whatever you want to ask. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so and try to point you somewhere better.
We get the full picture: what brought you here, what came before it, and what you'd want to be different. If you don't know that yet, it's a normal place to start.
Sessions run 55 minutes, usually weekly or every other week. We can keep things open-ended or work to a structure, and we can change the plan whenever it stops fitting.
